At room temperature, J-B Weld sets in 4-6 hours to a dark grey color. A full cure is reached in 15-24 hours. J-B Weld has a tensile strength of 3960 PSI and sets to a hard bond overnight. It can withstand temperatures up to 550ºF when fully cured. [links]

Original J-B Weld can withstand a constant temperature of 500º F. The maximum temperature threshold is approximately 600º F for a short term (10 minutes). Refer to individual product packages for more temperature information.

KwikWeld is a great alternative to original J-B Weld when you need a quick-setting epoxy. It sets in 4 minutes and cures in 4-6 hours, while J-B Weld sets in 4-6 hours and cures in 15-24 hours. Because it is faster setting, KwikWeld has about two-thirds the strength of J-B Weld; however, they are both strong enough for most projects and repairs.

Several years ago, I did an experiment with JB Weld. I mixed enough to make a thin wafer about silver dollar size. After curing I roughened the surface on both sides and weighed it on a digital scale. It was then immersed in about two cups of gasoline (with ethanol) sealed in a glass jar. I would daily shake the bottle to mix contents. Three weeks later, I removed the wafer and allowed it to air dry for 24 hours. There was no change in the weight. I did not have a means to photograph or examine the surfaces microscopically, but am confident that there was minimal dissolution if any at all. I'm sure the scientists on the Forum can point out flaws in this experiment, but I was satisfied that it would not turn into a gooey mess after the soaking in gasoline. here
