Project Crystal is named for the distinctive crystalline lattice that forms a striking part of the exterior profile. Designed to be a sanctuary, Project Crystal is a safe and relaxing space that is both beautiful on board and from afar. “We wanted to create an aesthetic that is celebratory,” says Stark. “The lines flow up and across, both lifting our gaze and also guiding it to what is around us: the people, the community and the environment”. The design is able to achieve swift global navigation and she has been crafted with a relentless focus on hydrodynamic fundamentals – the sleek unadorned underwater lines tick the boxes for both fuel efficiency and superb seakeeping. Not to mention she looks pretty exceptional too. here
Guests can relax on board Canova and enjoy nine hours of ‘silent’ mode made possible by an electric propulsion system that also charges the on-board battery bank. An easy-to-handle, yet powerful, sail plan ensures hoisting the sails is a breeze, meaning Canova can make the most of her sailing prowess (again cutting down on engine use). Large spaces and good indoor/outdoor flow make her a home away from home, with communal spaces including the large, sheltered cockpit with drop down glass sides. Canova was built to take her owner and guests around the world and will be venturing to a wide variety of destinations over the coming years. here
Why did you choose a Kadey-Krogen 42?
I’ve learned lessons on every leg. On the Atlantic trip I was sucking water in; it took me a year to figure out where it was coming from. I finally figured out it was coming from the vent from the fuel tank. That’s because the boat was spending so much time heeled over, and this stupid vent was under the rip rail, so it was actually sucking water into the tank. When I got to Ireland I had about 10 gallons of water in the bilge! So the lesson I learned from that experience was to move the vent.
I can’t have a vacation where I have nothing to do. I might die of boredom. So when people ask me, “How come you don’t want to stay in the Caribbean,” I’m always at a loss for words. That was especially true last week, when I was a little tired of Dauntless, let me tell ya. But now this week starts, and I say, let’s get the hell out of here!
Freshly launched and currently undertaking sea trials, the 139.7 metre super explorer yacht Solaris travelled to the top of this coveted list of expedition yachts earlier this year. The highly secretive project, which is due for final delivery later this year, is built by Lloyd Werft, which also delivered the 115m explorer Luna in 2010, the fourth largest explorer yacht in the world. Spread across an impressive eight decks, Solaris was designed by Australian designer Marc Newson and hit the water for the first time at the German yard in February 2021. While nothing has been made public about the project, images of the superyacht show a large helipad, sun deck and spacious beach club aft.
Delivered in 2010, Luna was built for Roman Abramovich as an upgraded replacement for his former exploration yacht Le Grand Bleu.
Helipads. Dive centres. Ice-breaking hulls. Submersibles. What makes an explorer yacht? True to their name, explorer yachts are well equipped to take on adventurous journeys to the most far-flung places in the world. Equipped with a long-range and vast storage capacity for food, fuel and water to enable weeks at sea, expedition yachts are increasingly popular with owners wanting to leave behind the popular Mediterranean and Caribbean cruising grounds for more challenging adventures. We round up the top 10 largest explorer yachts in the world, revealing Solaris as a new entrant. Launched this year, the 140m superyacht is now the largest explorer yacht in the world. However, it won’t have time to enjoy the top spot for long. The 182.9m expedition yacht REV Ocean is looming on the horizon.
During the 1980s, Nautor’s Swan entered a new era with the appointment of German Frers as designer, who has since been responsible for the design of all Swan yachts, maintaining that vital balance of competent racers, comfort and beauty in their design.
The contribution of Frers also permitted Nautor’s Swan to enter in the ‘one design’ racing yacht segment with the design of the Swan 45 in 2001, followed by the Club Swan 42 in 2005. developed in association with the prestigious New York Yacht Club to encourage the return to traditional Corinthian sailing competitions and finally the Gazprom Swan 60 Class founded in 2012. more
The first Swan yacht produced was the Swan 36, a yacht that introduced, in addition to the fibreglass used for the hull, a significant number of innovations such as the rudder positioned fully aft, the skeg separated from the fin keel, the centre of the hull shifted back with the application of a bustle, and the swelling of the keel aft thus providing great steering stability. It was a vessel that marked the beginning of one of the most prestigious boat yards in the world. more
There are only few brands among yacht manufacturers who have an image such as the Nautor’s Swan. Starting at twelve meters in lenght, they weave deep into the world of superyachts with vessels over thirty meteres. more
In 2006, to commemorate Nautor’s 40th anniversary, Frers designed the Swan 66, a model that is the quintessence of everything that Swan stands for. The Swan 66 was conceived using forty years’ worth of knowledge in premium yacht building and cutting edge technology.
