Re: Yamaha 25HP 4-Stroke Prop Question here
Mike,

Did you hook up a permanent tachometer or already have one in the boat? A buddy just bought a little boat with a new 25HP Yammi and we're wondering if we're getting the right performance out of it. No tach yet so we're clueless. [links]
I have a permanent tach. The boat has a small center console (big boat dreams on a little boat budget). I also have a pretty decent GPS/Map/Depth Finder (with an external antenna) so I know my speed as well.

My gut feeling is that a 2-stroke has more torque than a 4-stroke but the 4-stroke is quieter and cleaner to operate. I don't know if that is right or not though.

I bought the 10-1/2" x 11" prop. Since it was the "smallest" SST that I could find for a 25HP Yamaha I figured that it was better than the aluminum and couldn't be worse than the other SST prop that I have. My aluminum prop has about 10 hours on it and it already looks bad. We have a lot of oyster reefs where I fish.

As soon as I have numbers on the 10-1/2" x 11" prop I'll post them. [links]

OK. All the carbs were gunked up. Floats work as they should. Got it running and it does run better, but has a miss/backfire through the prop on initial startup. [links]
but I hope you got it running properly with no more problems
Hoping someone here can point me in the right direction. more
I drained the gear oil, replaced the spark plugs, replaced the prop, replaced the main oil, new gas filters etc.
Road the boat for about 2 hours yesterday and she did well and then the outboard started feeling sluggish. It would all of a sudden get power again and then slug again so I trailered her home. Acted almost like it was flooding. Pulled the cowl and sure enough fuel is spitting out the top of the outboard.
