There is no reason whatsoever that a fuel filter rated for a fuel injection system could not be installed between the fuel pump outlet and the fuel injection rail. Just be sure that the appropriate clamps are used and and check for leaks after the installation.

Both my wife's Ford Escape and my Ford F150 have them. Mounted under the vehicles, about mid-way between the tank and the engine. Come with simple clips that make them easily removable from the fuel lines. One band clamp holds the filter to the car. more

My brother changed the filter on his 1998 GMC pu also,
so they have had these filters for many years on injected motors
The pumps were in the tank and produce higher pressure than the old mechanical ones. [links]

did he clean out the fuel system or the injectors, did you replace the fuel?

What year is your motor and how many hours?

I learned from Rodbolt, you need to look at the entire fuel system.

Clogging of the VST by particulates seems to be quite common. The assumption that "it had just been cleaned" I feel is bogus. I had to clean my VST screen TWICE in ten hours of operation. The engine would not rev above 3900. The screen was mechanically blocked with fuel line detritus. You do not need to replace the $40 VST screen. Carb cleaner does the trick quite nicely.

Update: VST had a very high amount of what appeared to be a rust sludge. Looks like it was coming from outer housing of the HP fuel pump, which was fairly rusty. Even though the VST was 'new', the boat wasn't used for a while, so the moisture got to it. VST screen was the obvious answer from start, but made assumption it had to be fine since it had been totally replaced. Just sat too long I suppose. Actually the 'screen' wasn't too bad, but guess when at higher throttle it was sucking the rust up off the bottom to block the screen. [links]

Boat now runs fine, pulling 5800, smoothly with no surge or drops. At least for the time being.

There have been multiple threads online about guys finding rust on that VST screen and fouled injectors.

Changed the spark plugs.
Changed the water separator fuel filter.
Changed the inline fuel filter.
Replace 40 gallons of gas to fresh gas.
Bypassed the water separator filter.
Out of desperation, went to a lower pitch prop.
I have disconnected the lower ignition coil and started engine and engine idles smoothly.
I have disconnected the upper ignition coil and the engine seems to idle rough and spudder slightly.

I need help! I have a 2002 F115 4Stroke that loses power when I try to accelerate. I can move under power at 5 to maybe 10mph at 2000 rpms but when I try to accelerate it bogs down and the average top rpms is 3000 and I am still going 10mph. I have taken motor out of gear and am able to get 4000-5000 rpms sometimes and sometimes it will not accelerate past 3000 rpms. I suspect it is one of the power packs at this point. If it is one of the power packs should I change both or just one? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

The engine was running fine in early November and it all started when I fired it up in mid February. [links]
